Overall, developed countries have extensive smartphone access, while developing countries still remain disconnected from smartphones. This highlights how Smart Technology varies from country to country.

Primary Research

Under primary research, I made a Google Form with 10 questionnaires to collect data on how people use and feel about Smart Technology. I shared it with my classmates and received below responses. (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdfs0qA04WcQUpgqpKzrrSDS1B5LmiLm9ecAUipqoCv3gqNnA/viewform?usp=dialog** )

According to the responses, the above chart shows the awareness that students who answered the question have an idea about smart technology and are using it in their daily lives.

The above chart shows that 80% of students are almost aware of what smart technology really does. they are aware that the purpose of smart technology is to automate tasks. But still, a minority of students are not really aware of the purpose of the Smart Technology. 20% of students have chosen 'to make devices more expensive' and 'to eliminate internet usage', which is incorrect.

The above chart clearly shows that smartphones are the most essential smart device that almost all of them use daily with 100%. The usage of smart devices like smart watches and smart TVs remains comparatively lower than smartphones. Alexa is not still popular among the students. But all of them use either one smart device in their everyday life.

Conclusion

The primary research confirms that all the participants are aware of smart technology and use it regularly. Smartphones are the most commonly used devices among students. highlighting its importance in communication, entertainment, and education. Although the usage of smart devices like smartwatches, smart TVs, or Alexa remains less but is growing interest. Overall, this suggests that smart technology is a part of daily life, especially among university students.

Pros and Cons

8. Why Use Smart Technology? (Benefits)

Smart technology brings many good things:

8.1. Convenience

You can control devices with your voice, phone, or even set them to work automatically.
Imagine your coffee machine turning on by itself every morning!

8.2. Saves Energy

Smart lights and appliances turn off when not needed. This saves electricity and helps the planet.

8.3. Better Security

Smart cameras and alarms can watch your home, send alerts, and even let you see what’s happening in real-time.

8.4. Automation

Smart devices can work together. For example, when you open your door, the lights turn on, the fan starts, and your favorite music begins to play.

8.5. Data and Learning

These devices collect data.
Over time, they learn your habits and help improve how things work, like setting the perfect room temperature before you even ask.

9. Where Is Smart Technology Used?

It’s not just in homes. Smart tech is now everywhere:

Cities

Use it for traffic control and street lighting

Hospitals

Use it for patient monitoring

Factories

Use it to manage machines and supplies

Farms

use it to check the soil and weather for growing crops

10. Who is Using It?

In the U.S., about 65% of people already have at least one smart device at home. More men than women use them — 82% of men compared to 49% of women. People who care about climate change are more likely to use smart tech too, because it helps reduce waste and energy use.

11. The Risks and Challenges

Smart technology is great, but there are some problems too — mostly about security and privacy.

11.1. Weak Security

Some devices are made quickly and sold fast, so they don’t have good protection. Hackers can find ways to break in.

11.2. Unprotected Networks

Many people use the same Wi-Fi for all their devices. If it's not secure, it gives hackers an easy way to enter your home system.

11.3. Data Leaks

Even small bits of data, like when you turn on your lights, can be used to guess your daily habits. This can be a privacy risk.

11.4. Cyber Attacks

Smart homes can be attacked in different ways, like listening in, overloading the system (called DoS attacks), or even watching through hacked cameras.
